Long time, no update

I have been busy but haven't stopped working on little projects. Here are just a few of the things I've been working on...

Dining Room Remodel:

before

So I decided to do something I've been thinking about for a while. Some of you may remember a fair amount of my home had ceilings covered in the very unoriginal popcorn. I had removed it from the living room but it remained in the dining room and one hallway. When I tell people I scraped the ceiling and repainted my dining room, they think it's pretty minimal. But it's actually quite involved. Here are the steps:

  1. Lay out plastic (you will still make a huge mess)
  2. Spray water onto the ceiling (and make a huge mess)
  3. Scrape off "popcorn" (make an even bigger mess)
  4. Scrape out edges where drywall meets wood beams
  5. Use spackling to fix any holes / gross imperfections in the ceiling
  6. Sand edges where drywall meets wood beams
  7. Sponge off edges to caulk will adhere
  8. Use elastomeric caulk to fill and reform edges
  9. Sand spackling and elastomeric caulk after they have dried
  10. Sand beams and rough up any areas adjoining the walls
  11. Sponge off everything to remove dust
  12. Prime ceiling
  13. Paint two coats of color to ceiling
  14. Sand drywall to remove imperfections from previous owners
  15. Spackle any voids
  16. Sand spackle
  17. Sponge down walls for better paint adhesion
  18. Paint main wall areas
  19. Cut-in the numerous inside corners where drywall meets beams
  20. Go back to 18 for coat #2
See, it's not so easy. But it looks great:
